Am I good enough
I got inspiration from a friend of mine who is a Chinese social media celebrity. When we were in high school, she is a confident and beautiful girl. After she became famous, even though there are many people think she is very gorgeous, she still changes how she looks herself, even hurting herself, just because of a small part haters' words. This incident has let her suffer from a serious mental disease. While I feel sorry for her, I found this thing is not only happening to these celebrities body. Many people are unwilling to respect themselves and are more willing to change themselves or even hurt themselves for others' thoughts. Even sometimes , people are not hurt by the words from others but by themselves
As for the materials, the glitters are my first decision, because they are kind of like social media celebrity of materials. People like to use them to create a luxurious atmosphere, which will is an easy way to get likes. And I really want to use glitters to create a violence feel, after all, it is cyber violence. First I mixed fake blood with glitters, I thought glitters will flow with the blood, but it turns out stuck around. Then I mixed glue and glitters, to make they look like body fluid, it turns out well, it does look like blood made of glitters. But I still think it looks a little weak, it is not strong enough as an individual work.
After trying a variety of materials, I found glitters can stay on the skin with other material, even I slap cannot take them down. I decided to make a video to record it. It turns out strong.
This is the first idea of the way of the exhibition. But I think 'the glitter fluid' on the wall, it is a little obvious, so in the real exhibition, I decide to delete it.But on the day we set up for the exhibition I found that the school did not provide the tools to hang the TV on the wall so I could only put the TV on the floor or on the plinth. Since the TV is too small, if I put the TV on the floor, the wires on the wall will be exposed and I can only put the TV on the plinth. Even it is not what I thought, it turns out not bad.
