These are real cupcakes
After one year in the UK, this summer vacation I was forced to have dinner with some old family members. During the chat with them, I received some comments that made me feel very uncomfortable. They said that girls have lost their value after 25 if they haven't get married. The most important role of women is to give her husband a son, as if their family did not have this son, human beings will become extinct.
At the same time, there is some news that makes me feel that it is difficult for women to have control over their own lives. In some people minds, women are just something up for grabs. They can get it just use a little money, or just take it by violence. Anyway, they think women are just an accessory to others, not an independent human being.
I don't want to encourage the audience to eat this cake, I just want to give them a strong message that this cake is edible.
At the exhibition, I left a cake that has been taken a bite, so the audience can get the message.
There is a saying in China:人为刀俎，我为鱼肉. That means to be meat on somebody's chopping block. This is exactly what I feel about women status in China.
I want to the work do is able to interact with the audience. So I make sure all the materials can be eaten.
I use sugar the most female feeling food to make a women organ. And cupcakes are also feminine feeling. Also, I chose the Red velvet cake to give the fragile vibe.
